Memories of Mom

Today is my mom's birthday and to stir up some memories of her today I wanted to post some pictures of some mail that my Grandmother passed along to my brother a couple of weeks ago.

This first picture is the back of an envelope that contained a letter my mom sent home while she was at girl's camp. It was postmarked July 24, 1952 which would make her about 11 years old. She puts a little message on the back of the envelope to remind her family to write and send pakeges -- my horrible spelling is genetic as evidenced by the way she has spelled packages... and how cute are the lipstick kisses?!?!?!

What I love about this next letter is the address she was sending it to. All she had to do was put my Great-Grandmother's name and the city and state for it to reach her. When did zip codes become mandatory?

This picture shows my earliest memories of my mother's hair.
Impressive, yes?
And how cute is the expression on my brother's face?

And this last picture is of my mom holding me. Please note the huge sunglasses - My brother informed me a few weeks ago that my huge sunglasses remind him of a gigantic fly.

It is fun to have things that show how she was when she was a little girl and to have the pictures of her when she was my age, actually younger. I wish she had been here longer for me to get to know as I grew into an adult but I am glad that I had as much time with her as I did.

Happy Birthday, Mom.
