Order: Step 1

So, I FINALLY have all of my Christmas decorations down and put away. There are a few lingering reminders here and there – the Christmas dishtowels and Santa toilet seat cover in the laundry (sorry Mike, I know how you feel about Santa in the bathroom), the Christmas rugs hanging up to dry in the spare bathroom and the little green pretend pine needles from my tree and garland sprinkled here and there where I missed them with the vacuum – I feel like these little needles keep popping up until well into Spring.

I absolutely LOVE decorating for Christmas – I have the funnest decorations and I didn’t even have half of all of my décor up this year. I absolutely DESPISE having to take it all down and put it away. It’s not that I don’t want to part with all of the décor – it is just all of the work that accompanies all of the Christmas fru-fru. I can’t just pile the lights in a box – I have to carefully wrap them up so that when I get them out next year I know that they will be ready to go. Actually, what I need to do is figure out a way to secure all of the fake pieces of my artificial tree together so that I can leave the lights on and just carry it downstairs like my dad does. I tried to do that this year but the tree kept coming apart and falling on top of me - ( I know what you are going to say, Kevin - that was the punishment I got for stooping so low as to purchase an artificial tree)

While I am not a fan of the de-decorating I must say that once it is all boxed up and tucked neatly in the basement and I have vacuumed and dusted I love how neat and orderly my house looks. I still have some decorating to do so things still look a bit barren but it is a nice start to get me ready for my year of order.

My next project: putting away all of the bathroom ‘stuff’ I finally brought over from my dad’s – who knew I had so many different forms of curlers and so many different flavors of shower gel…. I will have to take a before and after shot – but only if you promise to still be my loyal readers after you see the before…

P.S. Did you know that ‘funnest’ is not a word? I prefer it to ‘most fun’ but I am not here to impress, only to report --

I broke down and bought a fake tree this year too. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the no pine needles on the floor. I LOVED LOVED LOVED that I didn't have to water that tree and it was never a fire hazard in my home. I think Kevin is the only spirit of Christmas past that doesn't have an artificial tree WITH lights.
