Just a nice family dinner

Tonight I went to my brother and sister-in-law's for dinner to celebrate my niece Shelby and her mom's birthdays. We had a YUMMY dinner and I brought my favorite chocolate cake in the form of the new bunt pan I got for Christmas - remind me to post the recipe -- it is SOOOOO good!

After dinner we chatted about our heritage (the Carter line was in America before the first Colony was formed - pretty cool). We have an incredibly rich ancestry - we had family in both the Martin and Willey Mormon Hand cart companies as well as family in the original wagon trains that found their way into the Salt Lake valley. I really need to do a better job in my own life living up to the sacrifices they made.

After dinner I stayed for a bit and talked politics with my brother. He is not fun to argue with when he holds an opposing view - he is pretty smart and can be kind of annoying when he thinks he is right and this only bothers me because I am exactly the same way. But tonight we were both on the same side and he had been doing some interesting reading and shared some insightful political tidbits that I really enjoyed learning about.

It was just a nice night -
